Wie der Pariser Staatsanwalt François Molins am Dienstagabend mitteilte, wurde gegen den Ex-Präsidenten Nicolas Sarkozy wegen des Vorwurfs illegaler Wahlkampffinanzierung ein Strafverfahren eröffnet.
Damit könnten Sarkozys Ambitionen bei der 2017 anstehenden Präsidentschaftswahl zu punkten zum Vorteil von Marine le Pen erheblich beeinträchtigt werden.

Medienberichten zufolge droht Sarkozy zudem ein Korruptionsprozess, in welchem die Anschuldigung im Raum steht, er habe vor zwei Jahren den Versuch unternommen einen hohen Staatsanwalt zu bestechen.

Bleibt zu hoffen, dass es der französischen Justiz gelingen mag, die Anschuldigungen gerichtsfest zu beweisen um ohne Ansehen der Person einen angemessenen Urteilsspruch zu erwirken.

Medienberichten zufolge wurde Sarkozy in einem Korruptionsprozess zu einer Haftstrafe von 3 Jahren (davon 2 Jahre auf Bewährung) verurteilt.
Es wird erwartet, dass der frühere Präsident in Berufung gehen wird. Die Behörden hatten Sarkozy Bestechung und unerlaubte Einflussnahme in einem Ermittlungsverfahren vorgeworfen.
So soll Sarkozy von einem Juristen am Kassationsgerichtshof vertrauliche Informationen über Ermittlungen erhalten haben. Als Gegenleistung soll er Unterstützung bei einer Bewerbung um einen Posten in Monaco versprochen haben. Sarkozy hatte die Vorwürfe zurückgewiesen.
Demnächst soll ein weiteres Verfahren gegen Sarkozy eröffnet werden. Dabei geht es um angebliche illegale Wahlkampfspenden. Ihm wird vorgeworfen, dass sein Wahlkampf für die Präsidentschaftswahl 2007 mit Mitteln aus dem Umfeld des damaligen libyschen Machthabers Muammar al-Gaddafi finanziert worden sein soll.
